Improvements to resources and workspace settings

We've made a set of improvements to how you find, organise and work with resources in Foodworks. Here's what's changed.

Changes to Workspaces

A new layout for workspace settings

Workspace settings have a new layout. The tabs that used to run across the top are now in a navigation pane down the left, so everything is in one list and easier to find.

  • The General tab is now called Details.
  • Workspace access and permissions has its own tab.
  • Export data and label assets (such as the Country of Origin graphics) have moved from Tools into workspace settings.
  • Notifications and Archive workspace are now in the workspace settings navigation pane.
  • Reference data is where you choose your data sources and searchable workspaces, and where you convert a workspace to a searchable workspace.

A refreshed navigation pane

The navigation pane has a cleaner, more compact design, so more of your resources fit on screen.

  • A new icon bar on the left lets you switch between your resources and workspace settings.
  • The Tools menu can now be found in workspace settings.
  • The breadcrumb in the app top bar shows which workspace you're working in. Select the home icon to go back to the workspace dashboard.

Changes to searchable workspaces

Searchable workspaces let you use resources from one workspace as reference data in others. Making a workspace searchable is now a permanent conversion, not a setting you can switch on and off.

  • Find it on the Reference data tab. Go to Workspace settings > Reference data and click Convert. This option was previously on the General tab.
  • Only users with permission can convert a workspace. Organisation owners and administrators have this permission automatically.
  • Converting can't be undone. Before you confirm, a dialog explains what converting means:
    • Anyone in your organisation can search the workspace's resources and use them as ingredients, even if the workspace isn't shared with them.
    • The workspace can't be converted back or deleted, because recipes in other workspaces may depend on its resources.
    • Resources in the workspace can only be moved to other searchable workspaces.
    • To hide a searchable workspace from the Reference data tab in other workspaces, archive it.

Anyone with access to the Reference data tab can see whether a workspace has been converted.

Changes to Resources

Improved percentage-based quantities

Percentage-based recipes are now more flexible and more reliable:

  • Choose your anchor ingredient. The anchor ingredient balances the recipe to 100%. You can now pick which ingredient it is with Set as anchor ingredient.
  • Clearer publishing checks. You can't publish if an ingredient is missing a percentage or has one outside 0–100%.
  • Cleaner values. Percentages are rounded sensibly, to a maximum of 3 decimal places.

Turning percentage-based quantities off converts each percentage to the same number of grams (60% becomes 60g). It doesn't restore the original weights.

An updated Measures tab

The Measures tab for foods, raw materials and recipes has been tidied up. When you click + Add measure, a Create measure dialog now opens, where you enter the name, weight and any notes, and choose whether it's the default measure. The measure is added to the table when you click Create.

From the Measures tab you can also copy measures and the volume conversion factor (VCF) from a similar item, and turn on liquid and volumetric measures.
