FOODfiles is the reference food composition database for New Zealand, developed and maintained by The New Zealand Institute for Plant & Food Research Limited on behalf of the New Zealand Ministry of Health.

It provides analytically derived and sourced nutrient data; including carbohydrate, protein, fat, cholesterol, caffeine, vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, fibre, moisture and ash; across a continually expanding set of New Zealand foods and food components.

FOODfiles is released periodically as versioned updates (e.g. 2018, 2021, 2024), each reflecting revisions to food records, nutrient coverage, and underlying data management systems. Component coverage varies by nutrient and by food. Not all nutrients have complete data for all foods.
