Declare allergens for a raw material

This article applies to the following workspace types

Nutrition Labelling

Set the status of every allergen for each raw material. When the raw material is used in a recipe or sub recipe, its allergens flow through to the label:

  • Yes: the allergen appears in a Contains statement.
  • Maybe: the allergen appears in a May contain or May be present statement. You choose which wording to use on the recipe or sub recipe's Labelling tab, under Statements.
  • No: the allergen isn't shown.

Declare allergens for a raw material

  1. Open the raw material and click Edit.
  2. On the Nutrients tab, in the Override column, set every allergen to Yes, No or Maybe.
  3. Optional: Add a note in the Note column, such as the source of the information.

Changes save automatically. When you're ready, click Publish.

If any allergen is left unset, a warning appears in the error and warning messages at the top of the screen.

Tip: Keyboard shortcuts

Click an allergen's value in the Override column and type y (Yes), n (No) or m (Maybe). The cursor moves to the next allergen automatically, so you can work down the list quickly.

Precautionary statements

"May contain" statements are precautionary and aren't required by the Food Standards Code. Only set an allergen to Maybe when there's a genuine risk of cross-contact, based on your own risk assessment.
