Pin a data source version for a workspace

The data sources available in Foodworks are updated from time to time. Some, such as AusBrands, are created and maintained by the Foodworks team. Others, such as NZ FOODfiles, are food composition tables released by external publishers and brought into Foodworks. Whenever a data source is updated, the update is published as a new version of that data source.

By default, a workspace always uses the latest version of each data source. If you need your nutrient data to stay the same over time, you can pin the workspace to a specific version of any data source instead. For example, you might need consistent results across a research project, or want to be able to cite the exact dataset you used.

What happens when a new version is released

If your workspace uses the latest data source version, when a new version is released:

• New reference foods become available to search and use.
• Updated reference foods use the new nutrient data, including in your existing resources. 
• Archived reference foods no longer appear in search results, however, they continue to work where already used in your existing resources. 

If your workspace is pinned to a version:

• All reference foods use the nutrient data from that version, so your results don't change.
• Reference foods archived in later versions stay searchable and usable.
• New reference foods added in later versions aren't available until you unpin or pin a later version.

To pin a data source version:

1. Open the workspace.
2. In the navigation pane, click Workspace Settings.
3. Click the Reference data tab.
4. For the data source you want to pin, expand the information and select Use a specific version.
5. From the list, select the version you want to use. To see information about the version, hover over the info icon next to it.

Changes are saved automatically.

You can pin a version at any time, including after a newer version has been released.

To go back to always using the latest version:

1. Open the workspace.
2. In the navigation pane, click Workspace Settings.
3. Click the Reference data tab.
4. For the data source, expand the information andc select Always use latest version.

Changes are saved automatically. Your work will now use the nutrient data from the latest version.

Note: Pinning applies to the whole workspace and is set separately for each data source.
